Campaign website

Jones’s campaign website stated the following:

Cost of Living
It’s no secret it’s costing more to pay the bills and upkeep daily life. In Congress, my main focus will be lowering costs for working families.

Rural Broadband
There are no broadband options where I live. Rural Texans need a voice in Congress that will speak to the importance of access to necessities like internet for education and career opportunities.

Healthcare
Access to affordable healthcare is a basic right. Send a rural Texan to Washington as a common sense changemaker that will fight for our healthcare options, access, and affordability.[3]

2022

Laura Jones did not complete Ballotpedia's 2022 Candidate Connection survey.

Campaign website

Jones' campaign website stated the following:

Flood Mitigation

I will focus on flood mitigation efforts to protect life and property during flooding events to reduce the burden on FEMA when a natural disaster does occur.

Education for Our Future

Public education is critical to the future of Americans. Our children and grandchildren rely on the public education system regardless of our income, sex, religion, race, or socioeconomic issues. Despite the role of education in shaping our youth and our future, it is so often neglected at the federal level.

Everyone wants their children to go to college, but the truth is that path isn’t for everyone. Plenty of students want to engage in hands-on careers such as welding, plumbing, agriculture, cosmetology, and even the military. High school students should have the option of graduating with trade certifications they can use to enter the workforce and begin their careers. Even in today’s technological world, our young adults should still have access to varied career and technical education options.

Not only do we need to make sure we have well-paid, quality educators, but we need well-crafted, quality education that includes higher education opportunities available to all students without crippling graduates with staggering student loan debt.

Health Care Issues

Health care is a right and every American should have access to quality, affordable health care. With prescription drug prices out of control and women’s health and reproductive rights challenged, Americans fight every day with the real problems in our current health care system.

Americans face long waiting times for insurance companies to approve referrals and tests already authorized by their physician. Some Americans self-medicate to make a 30-day prescription last for 60-days because they can’t afford the monthly costs, further complicating their medical care. In rural areas of District 8, hospitals and facilities have closed, causing barriers to patient access to health care.

Making health care accessible means a health care system that is available and affordable to everyone. We need increased funding for community health centers with comprehensive care for medical, dental, and mental health issues.

Our Jobs and Taxes

When the incumbent brags about “super-charged economic growth, expanded job creation, and rising wages for hard-working American families,” the citizens of District 8 are not realizing these alleged improvements in the economy in their own pocketbooks or savings accounts.

The recent Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was billed as an overhaul of the tax code intended to simplify filing, reduce tax rates, and reduce withholdings so employees can increase their tax-home pay.

However, as a business owner, it’s still difficult to maneuver through the current tax laws without the help of an excellent accountant. Our tax laws need to be simplified, fair, and equitable, as I will fight for Fair Taxation for Texans and all Americans.

I will focus on strengthening industries in smaller towns and creating industry in towns that have none. Industry brings economic growth and new jobs. But, to attract industry, all rural areas should have access to adequate, affordable broadband service and the infrastructure to support economic growth. I will bring together resources to improve the infrastructure to meet the needs of industry.

Additional Issues Facing District 8

Ever notice that members of Congress are often re-elected as career politicians? How about the fact the longer a member of Congress stays in office, the more special interest legislation gets drafted and considered? I believe that no elected official should be in office for more than 5 terms. Term limits will help break up the stagnation in Congress and allow an opportunity for fresh ideas and younger representatives to have a voice at the table.

District 8 has a diverse landscape, economic needs, and people, which means there are a variety of issues which can be overlooked as Congress tackles proposed legislation. The point is to have a representative that votes in the best interests of District 8 and brings District 8 issues to forefront.

“I welcome conversations about what is important to you. When I am elected, I will be a representative for all of the people of District 8, and I will listen to you.”[3]

I am a Native Texan, Wife, Mother and Business Professional. I served for the last year as the Chair for the San Jacinto County Democrats and Field Director for Texas Senate District 3 under the Texas Democratic Party's Non-Urban Rural Caucus. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas where my Husband and I raised our 6 children, and operated a successful business. I fell in love with the peace and tranquility of Rural Texas. And 14 months ago, my husband and I built a home with our two youngest children in a tranquil, rural town in Texas. As beautiful as rural Texas is, I immediately noticed the lack of proper representation. In my role as Field Director, I traveled around East Texas talking to residents and I heard many times over that they felt as if their voices were not heard. Many issues have gone unresolved for decades and we are now facing a Healthcare Crisis, Public Education Crisis, Flooding Crisis and Job Crisis in too many rural Texas communities. As a tax paying resident and mother of children that attend the local schools of a rural community I could not just sit back and allow things to decline so I decided to run and speak up for our Rural Texas Communities. Rural Texans are proud, passionate people and I'm proud to be a Rural Texas Democrat.
  • I am willing to listen to my constituents and ready to serve those that live in my District.
  • I will be a Representative for ALL of the people, not just some of the people.
  • I will work hard to uplift the communities in District and always put the best interest of the people before my own.
Improving Public Education

Addressing Flood Mitigation in many communities in district 8
Access to Affordable, Quality Healthcare for all residents in district 8
Access to high speed, robust internet service in rural communities
Bringing Industry to rural communities to provide local jobs

Provide support and care for our Veterans

I highly respect all the hard working Americans who keep our Country strong.
Integrity, empathy, willingness to listen and serve, putting community and Country before selfish needs.
I possess Empathy, I care about my neighbors, I have a heart to serve and a desire to make uplift my community.
To represent the will of the people in their district, be available and accessible to the constituents, honest and accountable
I would like to leave my district better than I found it.
The first historical event I remember was the Space Shuttle Challenger Event on January 28th, 1986 and I was 10 years old.
My very first job was at Baskin Robbins ice cream store , the summer I turned 16 years old. I only worked throughout the Summer so I could focus on school when the school year started back in the Fall.
The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho. It is a inspiring story of overcoming life's challenges.
Life Lessons Learned while Cleaning Toilets, by Laura Jones
Raising and educating my 6 children has been challenging but rewarding.
The House has the power to initiate revenue bills, impeach federal officials and elect the President in the case of an Electoral college tie.
I do not believe that representatives must have previous experience in government or politics.
The greatest challenge we face as a Nation is getting past the mounting political divide that keeps our County in a state of Gridlock.
I would like to be a member of the Agriculture Committee, Education and Labor Committee and the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.
I do believe 2 years is the right term length for representatives.
I support term limits. When elected, I will put a term limit on myself of 5 terms, or 10 years. The longer a representative is in office, the more likely they will become corrupt.
I would prefer to focus on the business of my district and feel that being a member of the party leadership would take my attention away from what is important.
My district is experiencing a flooding crisis and I have heard many stories of tragic events. One story in particular touched me... A resident's home flooded in 2016 with no warning because water was released from the Dam. She and her 80 year old Mother had to be rescued. She had flood insurance but it took 2 years to receive the payment. Shortly after she received the payment, the next flood deposited 6 foot of water into her home. she is a retired teacher and cannot afford to move because she can't afford to pay the high property taxes in neighborhoods that do not flood. She like many, many residents are trapped in situations waiting for the next flood.
