Biography

Laura McGinnis was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. She earned an education from World Harvest Bible College in 1996. Her career experience includes working as an artist, vet assistant in a small animal care facility, reproductive equine vet assistant, racehorse groom, kennel tech, server, riding instructor, caregiver, and DSP. McGinnis has been affiliated with Stampin' Up.[1]

I am a Christ-follower, a wife, a neighbor, an independent Stampin' Up! demonstrator, and a horsewoman.
  • The government's job is to secure our Natural rights. Anything more is just government overreach, and it is wrong.
  • Overtaxation is theft. Taxing personal property, income, and inherited wealth is stealing from the People.
  • The elected employees of the People should remember that they work for the People, and their voting record should reflect the wills of the people they were hired to represent, in accordance with Constitutional guidelines.
Stopping government overreach and stepping up for better border management practices.
Politically, Dr. Ben Carson and P.M. Benjamin Netanyahu. Both are godly men who love their Countries.
Otherwise, Kristen Vanderveen, a show jumping champion who exhibits a love for God, her family, and her animals in everything that she does.
"Think Big" by Dr. Ben Carson was an early influencer in my life, as I read it in my 20's. I can watch the YouTube video "NonCompliant Movie" by KrisAnne Hall over and over again, and I have!
Integrity and accountability. Honesty with yourself, and others. A strong knowledge of the difference between right and wrong.
I'm very real. I am not afraid of anything. I am not passionate about much.
They must adhere to the precepts defined in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They must interact with the people in their community, to understand what is needed, and wanted. They must be accountable to THEIR EMPLOYERS- the People Who elected them, and not to 'party leaders', big corporations outside their district, or campaign donors.
Animals. Adventure. Good moral character. Live a story worth telling.
I worked at a couple of riding horse stables until I turned 18. Then, I began grooming Standardbred racehorses. I have worked with horses/animals almost my entire adult life.

Getting robbed at work.
The governor should regard all communication with legislators as if he/she was speaking with each body of people group represented, from across the State. No closed door meetings, no threatening phone calls, and no favors/repercussions. Simply a matter of, "I see what are asking. Is there any Constitutional reason I should oppose this? Is it within my power? Would anybody or I be stepping out of their authority to grant this?"
Cutting government and dependence on the government.
It can be, if they have not succumbed to being "bought" or have previously lain down their principles.
Not particularly. They represent a different region than you. Their interests should reflect their communities within their district. That being said, I can definitely see where a conversation/pow-wow could be useful, in offering suggestions that will provide answers to strong conflicts with certain legislation. As for 'buddying up', this type of workplace is not conducive toward cultivating friendships.

Yes. To put it on a wider scale, I'm certain that there are many within my district who have no plan for their disabled adult children once they leave this earth, and nothing to leave them, as they struggle constantly to make ends meet, along with their added responsibilities.
Yes. Checks and balances should be in place for EVERY dime spent and mandate given.
Nothing at this moment. If I want to know more about the impact that a proposed bill or series of bills may have in our community, I believe I should like to be involved. If I am part of a committee, I believe it is my duty to be present for any public hearings on the bills that I will be required to vote on.
The government doesn't have the legal option to have secrets- especially when it comes to our money.

I am a Christian, a horsewoman, and a Stampin' Up demonstrator. I sell greeting cards and vegetables at our local Farmer's Market every week, and help take care of the animals on my family's farm. I am disgusted with the blatant government overreach and reckless spending, and I desire to help secure and maintain the natural rights of the citizens of West Virginia.
  • The primary job of every elected official is to secure the natural rights of the citizens. I believe that means lifting restrictions and excess taxation to allow them to create and maintain gainful employment, invest in their families by purchasing homes and land that, having been taxed at the sale, belong to the generations to come, with no threats of seizure by the government, and in their ability to arm themselves against any and all bodily threats.
  • I bieve that, at the moment of conception, when a human being's unique DNA has been written, the government is honor-bound to respect that person's inalienable rights, and to secure them, protecting the life of the human being from life until death.
  • I support school funding to follow the CHILD within the education setting that the child's parents deem is best for that child, in medical and healthcare freedom of choice for families, and in the drastic reduction of an overreaching government.

My Grampa is an Air Force veteran and now-retired test pilot. I have always sought him for personal advice, and he is a strong factor for my personal political views. The political candidate I most hope to emulate is Dr. Ben Carson, whose book "Think Big" inspired me greatly when I was in my early 20s. I hope to have the courage of President Donald Trump in the face of adversity.

I would like to leave as one who did everything to the best of her ability, and made a positive difference in many peoples' lives.

When I step away from the public office of Delegate, I hope that the citizens of District 62 will be better off than when I stepped up, and that my reputation will have positively inspired my successor to step up to the plate and do MORE for our community than I did.
My very first job was cleaning stalls in exchange for horse knowledge from the horseman/cowboy who lived next door when I was in 7th or 8th grade. I spent every afternoon in his barn, and many days during the summer on a haywagon. Even when I didn't work for him anymore, I was still the best hay loader he had, and I continued to bale hay for him every summer until I began working at the racetrack at age 18.
The Bible- I love the nuggets of Truth or revelation that will just hit you out of the blue, even though you've read/heard a passage hundreds of times. I also love the stories, mostly in the Old Testament, that my Grandma used to teach me.

I have struggled with many things that everyone else has. Fear is a big one. I do not listen to the lies that cause fear, but instead, rely on my understanding of God's Word and know that He is for me, and truly loves me, no matter what mistakes I make.
I think that they should each do the specific job that they were elected to do, and that, if anybody sees an abuse of power or negligence, refusal, or inability to do a specific task, they need to go through the proper avenues of having the perpetrator reprimanded and, if necessary, the actions reviewed by The People who elected that person, with opportunity granted for them to decide what action(s) need or do not need to take place.
Restoring discipline and accountability, to be followed by regaining trust from our employers- The People.
It is only beneficial when the politician has demonstrated accountability and moral fortitude in his convictions and promises. If he has only gained experience in succumbing to pressure, whining and making excuses for his poor choices, ignoring the demands and needs of his community, and/or becoming involved in 'dirty' politics, how can that be beneficial to anybody? When we re-elect a person who has too-quickly forgotten that it is WeThe People who employs him when he gets to Charleston, we are suggesting that we are in favor of having a corrupt and power-hungry government over living our lives in peace, with guaranteed freedom.
It is usually beneficial to be able to work as a team, as long as you share important fundamental morals and are not just using strength in numbers to coerce other legislators into abandoning their principles and making decisions that are detrimental to those within their communities.
In general, anywhere that I can feel like I can make a difference, or, at least, share a unique viewpoint, based on my experiences or that of people in my district.
Without causing any embarrassment, I think that the most impactful thing that I have witnessed is the feeling of hopelessness and physical hunger that was mostly bravely contained by a man struggling to feed his now- mostly-adult family. Due to a lack of nearby jobs and apathy having set in, the grown children were not working to help ease the family's financial burdens, and this man just simply wanted some food, and hope for their future. A neighbor told him that my campaign was giving out hot dogs at my Pop-Up Meet & Greet, and my husband and I were both grieved at the the family's situation, and ecstatic that we had been able to offer him something substantial in that moment. I am committed to finding ways to alleviate the overwhelming poverty and lack of gainful employment in my community.
Remember in the parable of the sower, when some of the sower's seeds fell on good ground, on rocky ground, or were smothered by weeds? What kind of seed was he planting?

The only emergency powers that I believe should ever be granted without a special legislative session are EXTREMELY TEMPORARY lifting of SPECIFIC restrictions and/or SPECIFIC use of funds only if SPECIFIC local catastrophes, such as devastating floodwaters levels or a physical attack or immediate threat of impending attack from foreign invaders.
I believe that compromise is effective and necessary for addressing disagreements within a body. I do not believe that compromise of your core values and beliefs is ever necessary, and, furthermore, you are lying to yourself and everybody around you when you claim to believe in values, but choose an easy way out rather than to stand firm on your basic principles.
