I have recently retired from enforcement with 25 years of service and have lived in the Vail community for sixteen years, with my husband and two children, who have always been enrolled in the VUSD. I have countless hours volunteering in the classroom, PTO, PTA, PTSA, site councils, teacher of the year board and cheerleading coach and I have enjoyed every minute.
- My first goal is to ensure that the VUSD continues and exceeds the educational excellence that already exists.
- I also support the much needed safety upgrades to all the VUSD schools to ensure students, teachers and staff are safe while on campus or other school property.
- The feel strongly about being a parents right advocate and will loyally defend their right to a voice.
I would like to follow Elon Musk. After many failures we was able to execute his vision and become very successful.
The book: An American Life, Ronald Reagan, The autobiography by Robert Lindsey (with Ronald Reagan)
I feel that the most important characteristics of an elected official, above all should be integrity and humility.
To do the job that they were elected to do and represent the people who elected them.
The legacy that I would like to leave is that I made very positive changes.
I have always struggled with reading.
The primary job of a school board member is to vote on curriculum, balance their budget, adopt policies and make major decisions regarding students, teachers, staff and the schools that lay within their district.
My constituent are the parents and community members that live within the Vail Unified School District area.
I would try to find sustainable funding to develop programs to support whatever the needs were.
I would try to build relationships with community leaders and business owners by inviting them to school sponsored events. I would specifically target large corporations in the community in order to get funding or donations for the schools that need any future projects.
Good teaching begins with a quality curriculum. This could be measured through test scores and classroom observation. I would support advanced teaching approaches by letting teachers use a variety of instructional strategies and classroom activities.
I would like to expand and teach more civics in the classroom. My district already has great pathways for students that do and don't plan on going to college after high school. I would like to ask the students, teachers and staff what innovative programming they wanted before deciding.
First, I would give incentives to principles of schools for not spending all of their budgeting money, then I would be continuously looking for funds from others sources, like grants.
Safety in the schools is actually the number one reason why I am running for the Vail Unified School District Board. I want to update and add specific devices to our schools. I also want to implement a continuity of operations plan (COOP) which currently my school district currently does not have.
I do believe that my school district has mental health support for students/faculty/staff in crisis already in place.
I would first like the opportunity to read through all the district policies before I make any decisions. I would like to implement a transparency policy requiring certain budgets to be available for public viewing.
I believe that the best learning environment for students should be in the classroom.
I feel that my school district handled the Coronavirus pandemic in accordance with our county restrictions. At the time that it happened, I believe that they thought they were doing the best for the students, staff and faculty. I believe every situation is different so I would like to evaluate it first before doing anything.
I would like to schedule meet and greets in a public place, so parents can come and talk to me. I would also like to have an open door policy, where parents can call, text or email me anytime.
I believe some good strategies for job recruitment are to create an employee referral program, develop a brand and use social media and internet platforms to post openings.
I believe school districts should have total financial transparency so that the people know how their tax dollars are being spent. Government agencies should have total accountability for their actions.
