Laura Murphy was a candidate for the Position 1 seat on the Thurston County Superior Court in Washington. She was defeated in the general election on November 8, 2016.

Murphy provided the following statement for the Washington general election voters pamphlet:

Laura Murphy has the experience, knowledge and integrity to be an outstanding Superior Court Judge. A former Prosecuting Attorney with a background in law enforcement, Laura understands community safety. After 15 years as an attorney in Thurston County, Laura has extensive courtroom experience. Serving 10 years as Judge Pro Tem and now Superior Court Commissioner Pro Tem, Laura knows the law.

A Thurston County lifetime resident, graduate of Olympia High and local Universities, Laura knows our community. She has served in the courtroom as a public servant as well as private attorney and business owner. Laura knows the importance of a balanced court and budget.

A community leader, Laura is on the boards of Thurston County Bar Association and South Puget Sound Community College. She volunteers hundreds of hours to those in need through Safeplace and as direct counsel.

“Over the last nine years, I have observed the value Laura Murphy adds to our legal and local community. Washington held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. Candidates for district and superior court seats had to file for election by May 20, 2016. Primary elections were held on August 2, 2016, for six seats where more than two candidates filed for election. Chris Lanese defeated Laura Murphy in the Thurston Superior Court nonpartisan general election for Position 1.[3]
