Laura Petelle represented District 3 on the Peoria Public Schools Board of Education in Illinois. She won election to the board in 2009. Petelle was defeated in her re-election bid against challenger Sue L. Wolstenholm in the March 18, 2014 general election. Wolstenholm withdrew from the race on February 21 due to health concerns but her name still appeared on the ballot.[1] District 3 represents K-12 schools in the northern section of Peoria.

Petelle earned her B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. She later earned a Master's degree in Theological Studies and law degree from Duke University. Petelle worked part-time as a lawyer and taught philosophy courses at Illinois Central College. [2]
