Campaign themes

Vinson stated the following as issues facing the district in response to a questionnaire by the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce:[4]

Academic Performance
Several positive indicators were reported recently in the Texas Academic Performance Report for LISD, however, there is always room to improve academic standards, and we must press on to achieve more. I support all efforts to emphasize expanded math and science rigor in order for our students to be best prepared for college or the workplace. As mentioned, I support the hiring of a Deputy Superintendent for Academic Services, and look forward to great results from Dr. Williams and her team.

Funding
Until the flawed funding formula is fixed, we will continue to be funded in the lower 25% of districts in the state. Every child in our state should have the same value placed on a quality public education, and school district funding must be equitable. I will encourage our legislators to stand up and be part of the solution, as soon as Judge Dietz surely rules again that the current formula is unconstitutional.

Growth Opportunities
Growth opportunities for the district are limited. I encourage and look forward to more development and growth in the Northwest area of Lubbock, which will provide new students and an expanded tax base. [5]
