Campaign themes

2016

Deegan-Fricke's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Jobs and the Economy

I promise to work with small businesses, large companies, and all of my constituents to create economic conditions that will allow all of our citizens to thrive. We will establish a system so every potential employee can find work. We can accomplish these things by investing in our state’s infrastructure, creating the best trained workforce in the nation, and dedicating our government’s time to serving the people, not special interests.

Education

We must make sure our teachers are being paid well and treated like professionals. We are losing great teachers to other states because we are not paying them enough, decimating their planning periods, over-testing their students, and overfilling their classrooms. It is time that our state legislature speak with real teachers, administrators, and students from our public schools across the state and see what we can do to promote their success.

Local Government

Our state government has consistently usurped the authority of local governments. The Republicans in Raleigh have slashed funding to county and municipal governments, forcing them to raise property taxes on their citizens. These political games must end. Local governments exist for a reason and they often know what is best for their communities. Municipal and county governments should maintain control over their airports, their schools, and their non-discrimination ordinances.

Bipartisanship

Both parties can work together and make government work for the people. All we need are people who will not give up until it happens. I want to be your voice, if you are a Democrat, an Unaffiliated voter, or a Republican, I will work every day to make sure your problems are solved and your representatives work for you.

Environment

Protecting the environment will always be a top priority for me. From guaranteeing safe and clean drinking water for our children to creating high-paying clean energy jobs around the state, there is no reason these issues should receive anything less than our whole attention.[1]
