Laurence Rubin was a judge for Division 5 of the California 2nd District Court of Appeal. He assumed office on December 21, 2018.

Rubin ran for re-election for the Division 5 judge of the California 2nd District Court of Appeal. He won in the retention election on November 8, 2022.

Rubin is the presiding justice of the California Second District Court of Appeal, Division Five. On November 27, 2018, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) appointed Rubin to succeed Justice Paul Turner. The California Commission on Judicial Appointments confirmed Rubin's appointment on December 21, 2018.[1][2] To remain on the bench, Rubin stood for retention in 2022.

Rubin was previously an associate justice on the Second District, Division Eight of the California Courts of Appeal. He was appointed by former Governor Gray Davis and took the oath of office on October 22, 2001. He was retained in 2002 and 2014.[3][4]

Rubin retired from the court on February 29, 2024. [5]

Rubin received his undergraduate degree and his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1968 and 1971, respectively.[2]
