Laurene Sorensen (Democratic Party) ran for election to the Idaho House of Representatives to represent District 5B. She lost in the general election on November 6, 2018.

Sorensen was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 5B of the Idaho House of Representatives.

Campaign themes

2016

Sorensen's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Education: Idaho is only as strong as its public education system. I am a strong supporter of robust state funding for public schools, colleges, and universities. Investing in Idaho's education system today means that Idaho’s children have the opportunity for bright futures and so businesses have the workforce they need to prosper and pay good wages.

Strong economy: To effectively stimulate Idaho's economy, we need to attract new business to the state. Working to attract and retain businesses that pay good wages is a priority of mine so that together we can raise Idaho's incomes from near-last in the nation.

Protecting public lands: Protecting Idaho’s public lands legacy is providing for our children and grandchildren; not letting politicians sell our fishing, hunting, and recreation places to special interests.

Healthcare: 78,000 Idahoans fall into an insurance coverage gap, earning too much to qualify for Medicaid and too little to qualify for subsidized health insurance under the state exchange. Providing healthcare to these individuals saves both lives and Idaho taxpayer dollars. I will work to bring healthcare to all Idahoans.[2]
