LAURI ASBURY is the current Vice President of the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education and is running for reelection in 2022. Asbury, who was first elected in 2016, has served as NJSD BOE Treasurer and Vice-Chair of the Curriculum Committee and is currently serving on the Policy Committee and as Chair of the Legislative Committee. Asbury is seeking to continue her work of bringing stakeholders together to provide relevant, high-quality educational opportunities for all Neenah students, to help the district navigate through the current pandemic, and to reinvent education in Neenah with the construction of a new state of the art high school.

Asbury is the parent of two Neenah High School graduates and has been a long-time community volunteer in organizations including the Neenah-Menasha Emergency Society. In recognition of the importance of mental health and community relationships, she currently has the honor of serving on the board of the Samaritan Counseling Center of the Fox Valley and the Winnebago Area Literacy Council

  • I will continue to support our incredible staff, and work to strengthen relationships with our local business and industry leaders to bring relevant, real world opportunities including apprenticeships, hands-on learning, and certifications to our students. My goals are to help guide the district to provide “relevant, meaningful, real-world opportunities” for all students, and to focus on teaching “problem-solving” and “critical thinking skills” to best prepare students for career, college, and life.
  • I will prioritize collaboration between our district and local colleges including Fox Valley Tech in an effort to better prepare our students for future careers and life.
  • I want to continue to bring our community and municipal partners together to work toward our common goal of a vibrant, thriving community. I whole-heartedly believe that education is the foundation for our future, and this is the way forward.

Working together to create policy that will benefit all stakeholders and support thriving communities. I'm most passionate about education as the foundation for the future and am also actively involved in public service supporting mental health and literacy in our communities.

The primary roles of a school board member are to support students, teachers, staff, and the community through active policymaking and continuous improvement for best educational practices in the school district. The board member must also listen and represent parents, students, and all stakeholders in the community, and must be continuous relationship builders and conscientious decision-makers.

Parents, students, teachers, administrators, community members, business leaders, local government officials.
