Angel's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[3]
Special interests
- Excerpt: "Laurie Angel knows that too many times decisions by the City Council are made on behalf of special interests and not the people who live in the 8th District. She will change that by listening and including residents before she votes."
Transparency
- Excerpt: "Local government is the closest level of government to the people. It should be the most open and trans-parent."
Neighborhood & parks
- Excerpt: "The top priority of City Council should always be doing what is necessary to make our streets and parks safe. We need more police patrols, a zero tolerance for graffitti and dumping on streets and alleys. We need to develop "pocket parks" and bring recreational activities into the neighborhoods."
Economic development
- Excerpt: "She knows there needs to be a better balance between the needs of community and the developers. She knows that real jobs need to be brought to all parts of the 8th Council District. Laurie's knowledge and dedication to the community means that our interests will be at the table."
Airport noise ordinance
- Excerpt: "Few other areas of Long Beach are impacted by the Long Beach Airport as is the 8th Council District. The values of our homes and the quality of our neighborhoods should be the most important consideration for the City Council. Laurie knows that we cannot risk losing our "airport noise ordinance" which limits the noise impacts."
