Laurie City Use Tax Implementation (August 2012)
A Laurie City Use Tax Implementation measure was on the August 7, 2012 ballot in the city of Laurie, which is in Camden and Morgan Counties.
This measure was defeated[1]
This measure sought to implement a use tax set at a rate of 2 percent for an ongoing amount of time to coincide with the current sales tax.[2] There was a tax in place which had the same taxing effect, but was removed when it was deemed invalid in March. City officials had stated that the tax was essential for the budget of the city since there are no other taxes in the city.[3]
Text of measure
The question on the ballot:
Shall the City of Laurie impose a local use tax at the same rate as the local sales tax, currently at a rate of 2 percent (2%) provided that, if any local sales tax is repealed, reduced or raised by voter approval, the respective local use tax also shall be repealed, reduced or raised by the same action? A use tax return shall not be required to be filed by persons whose purchases from out-of-state vendors do not in total exceed two thousand dollars in any calendar year.[4] |
