Biography

Laurie Thompson earned a high school diploma from South Sumter High School, a bachelor's degree from The American University in 1983, and a law degree from the Florida State University College of Law in 1991. Thompson's career experience includes working as an attorney at law.[1]

For 35 years I've been delivering solutions - as an attorney, government budget policy advocate, and community organizer. As a former Republican working in the Reagan White House, I believe I can build bridges, start real conversations and bring people together to solve problems. I'm running because our district deserves leadership focused on good outcomes for all - leadership that returns power to everyday people rather than corporations and billionaires, and that builds consensus to pass strong legislation that reflects the best solutions.
  • I am running to return accountability to the people. Legislators should serve their constituents, not their own interests or the interests of their donors. Elected officials should earn their seats by offering real solutions, not by drawing their own district lines and avoiding real competition. Let's elect our representatives based on their ideas - not because they have an R or D behind their name.
  • As a former Republican and budget policy advocate in the Reagan White House I am uniquely qualified to build bridges and create real solutions because I understand both sides of the aisle.
  • As a lawyer with 35 years of experience solving complex problems, I know how to cut through partisan noise and deliver real results. Georgia families deserve a representative who shows up, does the work and measures success by outcomes -- not by how many fights they can pick with the other side.
The first public policy area I am passionate about is making life more affordable for working Georgia families - from healthcare costs to housing to insurance and electricity rates that are crushing people on fixed incomes. The second area is protecting coastal Georgia's natural resources and economy -- our coastline, our fisheries, and our communities face real threats that require real solutions, not political posturing. The third area is tax policy which should work for Georgia families and small businesses, not be weaponized for political purposes or rigged to benefit special interests and large donors at the expense of working people.
