Campaign themes

2016

Warner's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Jobs

Helping Local Business Provide Good Paying Jobs

We have made great progress in recovering from the recession -- but there is more work to be done. Laurie will work to strengthen local businesses through tax cuts and removing government barriers to success. Strong, local businesses provide good paying jobs for our community.

Education

Minnesota's success starts with our children

The future success of our children starts with early childhood education. Laurie will invest in programs that provide our students a jump-start to kindergarten. All students deserve the opportunity to excel in our K-12 system. Laurie will work to train quality teachers, increase college and career readiness programs, expand access to technology in schools, and ensure students have physical education classes which will help them be healthier and more successful in the classroom.

Transportation

Many of our area roads and bridges are old, dangerous and inefficient.

Laurie will work to update our transportation system through long-term funding. This important funding will ensure our roads and bridges are safe to drive on and our business can move goods and services safely and efficiently.

Broadband

Working to Connect every Home and Business with Vital Information

Reliable internet is critical to the vitality of our businesses, worker training, and classroom education -- we must increase broadband access in our communities. Laurie will work to provide grants and state funding to increase access and reliability of this necessary resource.[2]

2014

Warner's website highlighted the following campaign themes:

1. I want to keep the economy growing: More jobs are being created. Businesses are opening and expanding, and unemployment is at a 7-year low of 4.3%. Jobs lost during the recession have all been recovered.

2. I'll work to keep the State budget balanced without gimmicks of the past. This year the state repaid loans borrowed from schools. A $2.1 billion surplus was created. We’ve a structurally balanced budget for the first time in a decade.
3. Historic education investments are paying off: We now have funded full-day kindergarten and frozen tuition of college students. New anti-bullying Safe and Supportive Schools Act. New funding for early childhood education. Help for low income students to have healthy lunches.
4. I'll help to ensure tax cuts for middle-class Minnesotans: Property taxes are dropping statewide for the first time in a decade. The 2014 Legislature cut taxes for more than 2 million Minnesotans.[3][2]
