Lawrence Hagel is a federal judge on senior status with the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. He joined the court in December 2003, following a nomination from President George W. Bush.[1]

Education

Hagel graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and entered service in the Marine Corps. He went on to earn a judicial degree from University of the Pacific's McGeorge School of Law. He also earned an L.L.M. in labor law from the National Law Center of The George Washington University, graduating with highest honors.[1]

Military service

After an extended tour in Vietnam, Hagel returned to school for his judicial degree, remaining in the Marines as a Judge Advocate. His awards include:

Judicial career

Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims

Hagel was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims by President George W. Bush and was confirmed by the Senate. He joined the court in 2003. From 2015 to 2016, he served as the court's chief judge. He elected to take senior status beginning on October 8, 2016.[1]
