Lawrence Hartlaub was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 89 of the Ohio House of Representatives.[1]

Campaign themes

2016

Hartlaub's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Representing the people: My number one priority if elected is to represent the people of the 89th district. I feel I represent the values of many of those living in our area, but I plan to keep open lines of communication. We live in the twenty-first century and our area needs a representative that is comfortable communicating in ways that will reach the constituents. I plan to hold regular office hours in both Ottawa and Erie County, developing official social media platforms to discuss issues and keeping local news media apprised of important votes affecting our area.

investments in Infrastructure: Local infrastructure is where government literally meets the road. We must invest in better roads to move people and goods into and out of our district. We need to repair old water and sewer lines and upgrade our treatment plants. This will not only improve the quality of the water we consume, but also the water discharged back into the rivers and our lake. This investment also creates jobs while upgrading our infrastructure for the 21st century.

Lake Erie: Growing up on Lake Erie I know its value in our community. It provides us with a wide range of opportunities. From recreational use such as boating, swimming and fishing to providing us with abundant fresh water for drinking and industry. I also know that harmful algal blooms are threatening the health and safety of the lake. I am committed to taking our story to the statehouse and finding concrete solutions and resources to clean up the lake and keep it a vibrant asset for generations to come.

School Funding: A quality education is one of the most important things we can provide for Ohio’s children to improve their lives. We need to make education the number one priority of funding in the State Budget. The last budget bill was more than $60 billion, and the first thing on the list for funding should be schools. With the national student debt approaching $1 trillion and the average graduate with a bachelor degree having $35,000 of debt to get started is absurd.

Job Creation: I will be committed to creating 21st century jobs. I would like to focus expanding manufacturing, supporting our vibrant tourism industry and the clean energy industry. I would like to work with business owners, labor, and the education sector to train and develop the workforce of the future that is in demand. I would like to work on developing programs that help small businesses start and grow by offering access to training and financing.[2][3]
