Harvard Law professor Lawrence Lessig (D) announced his bid for the presidency this morning on ABC News' This Week.[1] Running to be what he calls a "referendum president," Lessig has said that his only goal as president would be to ensure Congress passes the Citizens Equality Act of 2017. This bill would address three main issues: an "equal right to vote," "equal representation" and "citizen funded elections."[2] He is the sixth Democrat to enter the race.
Lessig is a professor of law at Harvard Law School and the director of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University.[3] He has also worked extensively in the field of Internet law and served on the boards of the Free Software Foundation, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Software Freedom Law Center and Public Knowledge.[4]
