I am a Navy veteran, first responder, and community advocate who believes that our elected representatives should lead with integrity and work for their constituents.

Originally from Stillwater, New York, I served as a firefighter before joining the United States Navy in 2012. Lawrence relocated to Hampton Roads in 2013 by way of his military service. During my Naval service, I deployed to the European, Mediterranean, and Arabian Gulf theaters for national security missions. After service at sea, I served at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. It was here that I was first exposed to the problems in local and state government. Lawrence separated from active duty in 2020 to focus on starting a family while continuing service in the Naval Reserve and working in the emergency management field.

I reside in the Western Branch area of Chesapeake with my wife and our son. I work in the emergency management field while pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Management from Grand Canyon University. I’m an avid outdoorsman and Jeep enthusiast and can be found most weekends off-roading, volunteering with the fire department, or spending time with friends and family.

  • Limited Government - If the past decade, especially the COVID-19 pandemic, has shown us anything, it has demonstrated that those who have been in government for a long time have their best interests at heart, not ours. Careless spending, over-regulation of the daily lives of Virginians, and failure to listen to the citizens. With Lawrence, you get someone who cares about the people and will work tirelessly to end senseless and unneeded government spending and over-reach, keeping your hard-earned money where it belongs: in your pocket. Lawrence will work to cut wasteful spending and reduce the negative impact big government has on our lives.
  • Public Safety - Lawrence supports strong public safety measures to protect the lives, welfare, and property of our neighbors. As a first responder, Lawrence understands that our local fire and police departments are at critical manning, with many areas of local cities having inadequate coverage for police, fire, and emergency medical services. Our first responders often must purchase their own equipment or pay for their own training, and often that training isn’t enough to prepare them for what they face today. Lawrence will work with local unions and local leaders to bridge the divide between where we are and where we need to be in terms of funding and staffing, supporting recruitment efforts, and protecting those that protect us.
  • Fixing Roads and Infrastructure, Planning Growth Smartly - Our General Assembly has failed to focus on the critical infrastructure that keeps our homes warm in the winter, keeps the lights on in our stores, and keeps the water draining off our streets. Additionally, our roadways cannot support how our cities are growing, with commercial and industrial ventures outpacing infrastructure. We also need to look at industrial growth and how it impacts agriculture and rural communities. Lawrence will work with local officials and public works experts to solve the infrastructure issues that have overburdened our residents and out vital public works employees. He will pioneer a partnership with Federal and Local partners to support cost sharing.
I am extremely passionate when it comes to any policy item I support. I truly believe in every legislative idea I bring forward or support. If I had to highlight my "Big 3", I would say that comes down to Limited Government (which is a big topic), supporting our first responders and military veterans, and fixing our broken critical public infrastructure.
Integrity, compassion, and determination. Integrity to do the right thing, even when it may be easier to follow the wrong path. Compassion for those you serve, even if they didn't vote for you. Determination to see things through, especially when the going gets tough.
My wife and I recently welcomed our first child into the world. My hope is that many years from now, my son can look back and be proud to call me his Dad. I will always work hard to ensure that the world my generation leaves to the next is better than the world we came into.
I very vividly remember the September 11th attacks. I was eight years old, in elementary school. My mother's family is from New York City, and I remember my mother staring speechless at the television when I got home from school. While most of our family in the area made it home safe that day, we lost a cousin who was an FDNY firefighter that responded to the events that day.
I first worked at a McDonald's, located in Mechanicville, New York. I worked there from age 16 until age 18. While there, I also worked at a Six Flags park (in Food Service and Customer Relations) and as an amateur Disc Jockey for a local roller skating arena.
Thank You For My Service by Mat Best. It is a unique look into the lives of Post 9/11 service members and veterans as told by one of the most successful (in terms of personal success after the military). The thing I love about it is that it doesn't shy away from the hard reality that many veterans face once they leave the military.
No, I do not. Bringing those without previous experience into government allows us to see things through points of view that aren't potentially skewed or biased by that experience. It gives us a fresh set of eyes through which we can gain valuable insight into the issues facing us.
It is not just beneficial, it is vital to build meaningful relationships with other legislators. This includes relationships "across the aisle", relationships with those in the other legislative chamber, and with our federal delegation.
I completely believe that compromise is necessary for policymaking. No group of people is ever going to completely agree on every item they discuss and this is more of a truth in government. With that in mind, there needs to be compromise to ensure that meaningful policy is discussed and enacted.
