Noteworthy events
In 2008, DeBello was accused by the New Jersey Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct of breaking judicial ethics codes for allegedly sending inappropriate emails to his former law clerk with his judicial email address. Between September 2007 and July 2008, DeBello and the unnamed clerk reportedly exchanged romantic and intimate emails. In December 2007, Judge Maurice Gallipoli ordered DeBello to end the email correspondence, but he allegedly continued the communications which included "offensive language." He also attempted to secure a job for the woman by making an unsolicited phone call to Deputy Public Defender Edward Marable and recommending her. DeBello admitted the alleged breach of ethics. In 2009, the committee decided to censure DeBello for violating the canons of judicial conduct.[3][4][5][6]
