Lawrence Reifurth
Lawrence M. Reifurth was a judge on the Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals. He was nominated to the court by Governor Linda Lingle (R) in January 2010 and was unanimously confirmed by the Hawaii State Senate on February 5, 2010.[1][2] He was sworn in on March 11, 2010.[3] Reifurth retired in August 2019.[4]
Reifurth filled the vacancy created when Lingle elevated Craig Nakamura to chief judge.[5]
Education
Reifurth received his B.S. in economics from Marquette University in 1979, his M.B.A from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management in 1981, and his J.D. from the Northwestern University School of Law in 1983.[3]
Career
Reifurth was one of five candidates for the Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals recommended to Lingle by the Hawaii Judicial Selection Commission.[6] He was unanimously confirmed by the state Senate on February 5, 2010.[7]
Reifurth was director of the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs before joining the bench. Before that he was the department’s deputy director. Reifurth's other public sector experience included serving as the state’s insurance commissioner in 1994, as a deputy attorney general with the state’s Division of Consumer Advocacy from 1989 to 1992, and as an assistant city attorney in California. He was in private practice with the law firm of Oshima Chun Fong & Chung in Honolulu from 1993 to 1994.[8][9]
