Welch ran for re-election for the District 5 judge of the Nebraska Court of Appeals. He won in the retention election on November 8, 2022.
Welch was appointed by Republican Governor Pete Ricketts in 2018 to succeed former Judge Everett Inbody.[1]

Welch received his bachelor's degree from Loyola Marymount University and his J.D. from Creighton University School of Law.[1]
