Collapse all
|- Restructuring of City Council. We need to restore balance between the mayor and city council by making it easier to override a mayoral veto. We should also increase ward seats in order to ensure representation from all communities in Lansing.
- Restrict mayoral power. Make a city council override of a mayoral veto more feasible. Additionally, change the system of appointing department heads. I think these jobs should be treated like any other job: a job description developed and posted publicly for several weeks and qualified candidates interviewed by a hiring committee. Currently, the mayor can nominate anyone for a department head position, regardless of their qualifications. Opening up this process can ensure that we have the best people from the region in those roles.
- Boards and commissions. We should take a critical look at all of the city's various boards and commissions, how many people serve on them, how long they serve, and how they are appointed.
