Biography
Green earned a B.S. in biology and chemistry from Stillman College and an M.S. in cytology from the Tuskegee Institute. At the time of her 2017 run for office, she was retired from her position as a science teacher for the Dallas Independent School District. Green has served as the president of the Garland NAACP and as a precinct chair.[1]

Mayor Douglas Athas ran for re-election in 2017. The city council seats in Districts 3, 6, 7, and 8 were also up for election. Incumbent Douglas Athas defeated Leala Green in the general election for mayor of Garland.[2]
