Lebby Jones
Lebby Jones was a Democratic at-large representative on the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders in New Jersey. She was first elected in 2014. Jones served until her death in 2019. She passed away in January 2019 from cancer.[1]
Jones was a member of the Irvington Municipal Council from 1994 to 2014, serving as the South Ward representative and then as an at-large councilwoman. Jones also previously served as a member of the Irvington Board of Education. She was the board's president from 1993 to 1994.[2]
Biography
Jones earned a B.A. in social studies from Claflin University and an M.A. from Kean University's School of Counseling and Social Work.[2]
Jones' professional experience included work as a teacher and guidance counselor for the Newark Public Schools. She also served as a shop steward for the Newark Teachers' Union and as the president of the Irvington Branch of the NAACP, the Dr. MLK Jr. Commemorative Committee of Irvington, the Laventhal Avenue Block Association, and the Irvington chapter of the Action Network.[2]
