I moved to Wyoming in 1977. I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a BS in Administration of Justice in 1989 and began a career first as a case manager in a community correctional facility, then worked for the Department of Family Services investigating child abuse and as a juvenile probation officer. I was promoted to the state DFS office, and began training and writing policy and procedures for child protection. I managed the state Child Fatality Review Team. I also managed the child protection federal funding streams. I educated legislators in required bills for federal compliance. I next moved to the Attorney General's Office, Division of Victim's Services as the domestic violence program manager. There I managed both state and federal funding streams, provided policy, procedures and training in domestic violence. I worked with legislators on bills concerning domestic violence. I provided training to not only DV programs, but law enforcement, courts and other community stakeholders. I learned conflict resolution. I retired and am half owner along with my husband of 40 years of a seasonal tourist based campground in Riverside, Wyoming.
  • All people need to be treated with respect.
  • Everyone deserves access to good health care and I support Medicaid expansion.
  • Every child deserves the best education we can provide.
I know the value of being connected. It's important for the people of my district to have a voice and be heard in the legislature. I feel strongly our teachers need our support and they are a Wyoming treasure. I feel every child deserves the best education we can provide. I feel people and their families should feel safe in their home. I also feel Wyoming can do more in providing supportive mental health services to address the high rate of depression and suicide in our state. I support state involvement in affordable child care to help lift women into higher wage jobs. I support closing state tax loopholes before supporting tax increases. I support non-resident land owners paying a higher property tax over residents of Wyoming.
I believe the relationship should be based on respect and a desire to do our best for the state of Wyoming and it's people, not our party.
Supporting services in mental and physical health during a decline in mineral extraction revenues and taxes.
I do and and have that experience in working in state government and helping and educating legislators over my career in the areas of social services particularly.
I support and independent outside council.
Senator Mike Enzi used to say something like 'Let's work together on the 80% of things we agree on instead of fighting about the 20% we don't.' I respect this philosophy and want to carry it forward.
I do. I have had a lot of experience working with competing interests and people toward a common goal. I feel this is a strength I can bring to the Wyoming legislature.

Lee Ann Stephenson completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Stephenson's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Maintain the vast public lands of Wyoming in public hands. Support full funding for our public schools. Support keeping government out of the personal medical lives of women.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Interested in criminal justice reform.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Most important-be responsive to the district's people. I also support government transparency.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?

I do believe a candidate needs to have experience in service.

What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?

Economic development and diversity needed to move us from a single industry dependance and the boom bust cycle of government funding.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature?

Governor should be a big picture leader.

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.

I want to move away from the hyper partisan political atmosphere and work together and compromise in effort to best support the people of Wyoming.
