Campaign themes
2014
Cortez's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Economy
- Excerpt: "It’s time to Restore Opportunity for Arizona’s families and communities. It’s time to fix our stagnant economy. It’s time to keep Arizona competitive. How? By promoting energy independence, Federal and State tax reform, expanding Arizona commerce and job training."
Jobs
- Excerpt: "We’ll work together to restore opportunity in job creation. We’ll fight for small businesses, the engine for job creation. We’ll seek for lower taxes that encourage employment. Together we’ll work for policies that restore job creation and personal security."
Health Care
- Excerpt: "The Federal Affordable Health Care Act (Obamacare) Policy is unacceptable, rather than helping Americans it is actually doing the opposite and should be repealed."
Education
- Excerpt: "Under these gridlines, traditional schools, charter schools, and private schools try to attract parents and their children by out-doing one another through challenging programs. Arizona is an amazing place to live, where schools are watching where parents are going and trying to offer classes and programs that get their attention."
Border Security
- Excerpt: "In the United States, Arizona ranks 7th as Mexico’s trading partner behind many non-border states. We can do better, a forward thinking vision is the answer. Together we can work to create an Arizona Trade office in center of commerce in Mexico City in order to promote Arizona business and industry. With increasing trade and job creation, both countries will prosper and illegal border crossings reduced as opportunity increases."
