Leila Staton is a sixth generation Iowan. She is the daughter of a single mother and a graduate of Dike New Hartford High School. Leila has been dedicated to public service since she was young, and takes pride in serving her community. From making local parks clean for people to enjoy, to being a strong advocate & storyteller for advocacy programs, she enjoys giving back to her community. Leila has spent time at the Capitol doing things like advocating in a sub-committee hearings and speaking with Iowa legislators. She is also an strong advocate for Child Sexual Assault survivors. In 2024, Leila co-founded a local advocacy organization which advocates for public schools, accessible & affordable healthcare and housing, and civil rights while strengthening the community, fundraising for mutual aid resources and children's groups. Whether it’s an uphill battle to structure a long-term plan, or a last minute rally- she is always ready to organize. She is not afraid to stand toe-to-toe with silver-spoon fed loyalists in defense of Iowans.
  • Public money for public schools. Supporting public education is a top priority. Making sure students and teachers have all the tools necessary for success is imperative to education. Working to implement public oversight of the ESA (School Voucher Program) is Leila's day one objective.
  • Expanding rural healthcare. It's no secret that Rural Iowans struggle to find good healthcare with small town hospital and clinic closures. Leila wants to make rural healthcare more accessible, with an additional focus on women's healthcare, so ALL Iowans have access to affordable healthcare.
  • Protecting Family Farms. Leila intends to prioritize the needs of local farmers over out-of-state agribusiness interest. She will work to make sure farming can be a multi-generational career.
Women's Healthcare, Socioeconomic inequality, and people first infrastructure.
