I am running for office because I strongly believe my purpose in life is to be a servant leader and to give back to my community. As a father of two young boys, I want to improve our community for them and future generations.

When I was four years old, my mom and I moved from Brazil to Ohio to start a new life and pursue better opportunities. Growing up in a working-class family wasn’t easy. We weren’t afforded much, but we earned everything we had through hard work. Despite facing many challenges, I was determined to be the first person in my family to graduate from college. I was also determined to become a U.S. citizen.

I’m proud to say I was able to achieve both goals. Going through the intensive immigration process inspired me to seek a career in government.

For the past thirteen years, I have dedicated my professional life to working on legislative issues and advocating for the well-being of Ohioans. I have the experience and relationships necessary to get things done at the Statehouse.

While living in the Southeast part of Franklin County for the past eight years, I have seen the neighborhoods of this district ignored too often because they are outside of the I-270 outerbelt. If elected, I promise to prioritize the needs and aspirations of my constituents. I will actively listen to their concerns, be a responsive and accountable representative, and work tirelessly on their behalf to improve the quality of life within our community.
  • Leo Almeida has the experience to be our next Democratic State Representative. For over a decade, he has devoted his career to working on legislative issues at the Ohio Statehouse. His work can be seen in economic development, cleaner energy, affordable healthcare, and healthier families. His experience and relationships at the Statehouse makes him ready to hit the ground running on day one to fight for better healthcare, reproductive freedoms, and high-paying jobs.
  • Leo Almeida is a proud first-generation immigrant from Brazil, and the first person in his family to graduate college. Both of these experiences shaped who he is today and inspired his passion to help others achieve their American dream. Growing up in a working-class family wasn’t easy. His family wasn't afforded much, but they earned everything they had through hard work. As a father of two children, he understands that the hard work we put in today benefits future generations. As our State Representative, he will fight for an Ohio that lifts all families.
  • Leo Almeida believes representation matters. It is crucial to have more racial and ethnic representation at the Statehouse. Currently, the Ohio House only has one Latino Representative. As a new American and a Latino, Leo is committed to advocating for racial equity and justice. Leo will bring a unique perspective to the Statehouse. He will work to collaborate with other policymakers to achieve durable policies that impact Ohioans from all walks of life. He is devoted to bringing a new generation of leadership to the Statehouse and being accountable to his constituents.
Leo Almeida believes access to affordable and quality healthcare is a fundamental right that should be afforded to everyone. He will support policies that expand healthcare access, reduce costs, and enhance the overall well-being of individuals and families.

Leo plans to use his position to drive economic growth for the communities in his district. This includes providing funding for updated infrastructure, increasing public transportation and passenger rail, and building more affordable housing.

Current policymakers at the Statehouse are more concerned with expanding education vouchers than funding our public schools. Leo supports policies that will increase funding for public education and increase the starting salary for teachers.
Leo Almeida has the experience and passion necessary to be an effective State Representative. For the past 13 years, he has devoted his career to working on legislative issues at the Ohio Statehouse. His work can be seen in economic development, cleaner energy, affordable healthcare, and healthier families. He knows how to get things done at the Statehouse and has the necessary relationships to achieve his policy goals.

Leo is a proud first-generation immigrant from Brazil, and the first in his family to graduate college. Both of these experiences shaped who he is today and inspired his passion for helping others achieve their American dream. His lived experience provides him with a unique perspective as a legislator.

Leo knows the importance of servant leadership and being actively involved in his community. He currently serves as the President of the Board of Trustees for the Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS), a local non-profit and resettlement agency that serves refugees and immigrants in central Ohio.

Additionally, he served on the Community Relations Commission for the City of Columbus for the past three years. He was appointed by the Mayor of Columbus to serve on this commission, which provides community outreach and anti-discrimination programs.
I have been endorsed by the following organizations and individuals:

Run for Something, a national group that supports diverse, progressive candidates under 40;
Ohio Chamber of Commerce;
Ramona Reyes, Columbus City School Board Member; and

Bhuwan Pyakurel, Reynoldsburg City Council Member.
