Noteworthy events

Judicial misconduct (2016)

On August 3, 2016, the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC) charged Archer with three violations of the canons of judicial ethics for exchanging sexually explicit Facebook messages with a woman who had been a litigant in his court. Archer admitted that he sent the woman photos of his genitals that were taken in the courthouse. In Alabama, judges are automatically suspended while charges of misconduct are pending.[5]

Archer reached a settlement with the JIC agreeing to a six-month suspension without pay. On August 8, the Alabama Court of the Judiciary approved the settlement.[4]
