Leon Jones Jr.
Leon Jones Jr. was the Arkansas Director of Labor. He assumed office on January 12, 2015. He left office on July 1, 2019.
Jones (Republican Party) ran for election for Attorney General of Arkansas. He lost in the Republican primary on May 24, 2022.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) appointed Jones director of labor on January 12, 2015.[1][2] He stepped down when he became the executive director of the Arkansas Fair Housing Commission on July 1, 2019.[3]
Biography
Jones was born and raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He earned a J.D. from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville. Jones' career experience includes working at a grocery store and teaching high school prior to the completion of his law degree; and as the founder and owner of his own legal practice. He has served as a board member with the Arkansas Fair Housing Commission, the Arkansas Housing Trust Fund, and the Fayetteville Housing Authority. Jones worked on the 2014 campaign for Asa Hutchinson as the minority outreach coordinator.[1][4]

Arkansas Director of Labor (2015-2019)
Jones served as Arkansas Director of Labor from January 2015 through June 2019. He replaced Ricky Belk, who had served in the role for two years.[1][3]
Appointments

Jones was appointed as Arkansas Director of Labor by Gov. Hutchinson on January 12, 2015. In making the appointment, Hutchinson made the following statement:
