Leonard Hoshijo
Leonard Hoshijo was the director of Hawaii's Department of Labor and Industrial Relations from 2017 to 2019.[1]
Biography
At the time of his appointment, Hoshijo had been with the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations since 2015, serving as deputy director. Prior to joining the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, Hoshijo worked for the Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union.[1]
Education
Hoshijo earned degrees from Antioch College in Ohio and the University of Hawaiʻi.[2]
Political career
Hawaii Director of Labor and Industrial Relations (2017-2019)
Hoshijo was appointed as acting director by Gov. David Ige on December 12, 2017, succeeding Linda Chu Takayama. On February 7, 2018, Ige appointed Hoshijo to continue in this capacity, subject to confirmation by the Hawaii State Senate. The Senate confirmed Hoshijo on February 22, 2018.[1][3]
About the office
The director heads the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, the state agency responsible for administering Hawaii's labor regulations, unemployment insurance, and workforce development programs. The department also produces research and statistics regarding the state's labor market.
