Jeff Bonnell defeated Art Blundell in the Republican primary. Les Townsend ran as a U.S. Taxpayers Party candidate. Chirkun defeated Bonnell and Townsend in the general election.[6][7][1][2]

Townsend was a 2012 US Taxpayers Party candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 9th Congressional District of Michigan.Townsend was defeated by incumbent Sander Levin.[8] Townsend ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Michigan's 9th District. Townsend ran as a US Taxpayers Party candidate. He faced Don Volaric (R), Jim Fulner (L), Julia Williams (G), and Democratic incumbent Sandy Levin in the general election on November 6, 2012.[9]
