Campaign themes
2014
Leslie highlighted the following issues on her campaign website:
“ | I have a passion to represent all of Union County as the At Large Member on the Board of Education. I will be an independent, new voice that will establish positive relationships with families, all the members of the Board of Education, as well as town and county leaders. I will represent every taxpayer by making responsible, transparent decisions that will keep UCPS and our county strong. My leadership as Board Chair for the nonprofit, Turning Point, Inc Domestic Violence Shelter and my over 20 year career in federal facilities management provides me with the experience and wisdom in making sound decisions for a wide range of stakeholders. As a mother, I am called to contribute my skills and time to our schools.
I plan to encourage policies that constantly evaluate our current and future needs while at the same time preserve the best academic environment for our children and teachers. I will work to ensure that we are proactive and not reactive when addressing school needs. In addition, I will negotiate and compromise with other Board members and stakeholders. My goal is to foster better communication and collaboration between parents, all local governments within Union County and the Board of Education. For example, I will work to have regular collaborative meetings between members of the Board of Education and representatives of county and municipal government. We must improve communication about new plans or decisions to parents, teachers and the community in a timely manner. I will work to support, encourage and retain our teachers to continue to do what they love. I will continue to support the excellence UCPS delivers in preparing students who are college and vocationally trained but also workforce ready. Having grown up in a town similar to Union County, I love raising my family here where I meet people from all walks of life. We are ONE Union County and I will work to promote all the great things that are occurring in UCPS and to keep our school district the best in the state. [1] |
