Leslie Smith Turner is the chief judge for the Orphans Court of Howard County in Howard County, Maryland.[1] She was elected to the court on November 2, 2010, and assumed office on December 8, 2010.[2] Turner ran for re-election to the Orphans Court of Howard County in 2014, winning a term that expired on December 31, 2018.[3][4]

Primary: She was successful in the Democratic primary on June 24, 2014, receiving 28.8 percent of the vote. She competed against Shari Lynne Chase, Nicole Bormel Miller, and incumbent Judge Anne Dodd. Primary candidates competed for 3 seats.
General: She faced Nicole Bormel Miller, Ellen Harrison, Emma Travis-Howard, and incumbent Judge Anne Dodd in the general election on November 4, 2014, and won with 21.2 percent of the vote. Candidates competed for three open seats.

Turner was elected to the Orphans Court of Howard County in the general election on November 2, 2010, (along with Anne Dodd and incumbent Sherae McNeal) after receiving 18.10% of the vote.[6]

Education
Turner received her undergraduate degree from Fisk University, her master's degree in developmental psychology from Columbia University, and her J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law.[2][7]
Career
Before her election to the court, Turner served as an developmental disabilities administrator for the State of North Carolina. She has also previously served as an assistant state's attorney for Howard County and as an assistant public defender for both Howard and Prince George's counties.[2]
