A vote about whether to recall Lester Begay from his position as chapter president of the Tiis Tsoh Sikaad Chapter of the Navajo Nation took place on July 8, 2014. Lester Begay was recalled.
The campaign to recall Begay was led by chapter administrative assistant Paula Begay and her husband Gene Benally, vice president Arthur Yazzie and his wife Genevieve Yazzie, the chapter's community land-use planning committee president Patty Chee, former chapter vice president Perry Begay Sr. and former chapter presidents Albert Davis and Harrison LaMone.[1]
Election results
Begay was originally elected chapter president in November 2012. On May 5, 2014, Lester Begay was successfully recalled via petition. Therefore, the chapter president office was considered vacant between March 5 and the recall special election. According to Virginia Nelson, voter registration specialist at the Navajo Election Administration, a vacancy occurs upon certification of recall petitions. The recalled official's name is automatically placed on the special election ballot.[1]
A recall special election was held on July 8, 2014.[2]
