Hinojosa announced her intention to challenge incumbent Justice Greg Perkes (R) for a seat on the Texas Thirteenth District Court of Appeals in the 2016 elections. Hinojosa registered as a Democrat and defeated fellow Democrat Carlos Valdez in the Democratic primary. Hinojosa faced Perkes, a registered Republican, in the general election.[1]
