President Donald Trump (R) was sworn in on January 20, 2025, as the 47th president of the United States. Former President Joe Biden (D) left Trump a letter, continuing a tradition of presidents writing letters to their successors that Ronald Reagan (R) started in 1989.

It was a little bit of an inspirational type of letter. Enjoy it, do a good job. Important, very important. How important the job is." Trump also said, "It was a positive, for him, in writing it. I appreciated the letter."[1]

Dear Mr. President - Congratulations on a remarkable run. Millions have placed their hopes in you, and all of us, regardless of party, should hope for expanded prosperity and security during your tenure. This is a unique office, without a clear blueprint for success, so I don’t know that any advice from me will be particularly helpful. Still, let me offer a few reflections from the past 8 years.
