Lewis Thornton Babcock is an Article III federal judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. He joined the court in 1988 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Babcock is a judge serving on senior status.[1]

Education

Babcock graduated from the University of Denver with his bachelor's degree in 1965 and with his J.D. degree in 1968 before later graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law with his Master of Laws degree in 1988.[1]

Military service

Babcock also served on reserve duty with the Colorado National Guard from 1968 to 1974.[1]

District of Colorado

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Bill Armstrong of Colorado, Babcock was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on June 23, 1988, to a seat vacated by Judge John Kane as Kane went on senior status. Babcock was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 14, 1988, on a unanimous consent of the Senate and received commission on October 17, 1988. Babcock served as the chief judge of the District of Colorado from 2000 to 2007 before later assuming senior status on April 4, 2008.[2] Babcock was succeeded in this position by Judge Philip Brimmer.
