Lewis Bart Stone was a justice for the New York County Supreme Court, Criminal Term in the 1st Judicial District of New York. He served as an acting justice of this court from 2000 to 2008 and he then was a certificated justice from 2009 until his retirement on December 31, 2012.[1][2][3]

Education

Stone received a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1958, graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Art & Science in 1959, and received his L.L.B. degree from Harvard Law School in 1962.[1]

Career

Stone began his legal career in 1962 as an associate of the law firm Strasser, Spiegelberg, Fried & Frank. He joined Valicenti, Leighton, Reid & Pine in 1965. In 1967, he moved to the public sector, serving as Assistant Counsel to Governor utnil 1970 and Special Assistant Counsel through 1971. He returned to the private practice in 1972, serving as an associate and then partner of Carb Luria Glassner Cook & Kufeld until 1983 and a partner of Rogers & Wells through 1999. He was appointed to the New York Court of Claims in 2000, where he served until becoming a Supreme Court Justice in 2009. During his time on the Court of Claims, however, he served as an acting Supreme Court Justice.[1]
