Campaign website

Simard's campaign website stated the following:

Fix Our Economy

We all know the economy is broken. Still, our representatives fail to act.

Here’s what we’ll do different:

Raise Wages: Wages are stagnant while worker productivity and corporate profits continue to increase. We’ll sign on to the $15 Minimum Wage, creating a trickle-up effect throughout the economy, and raising the wages for all industries.

Fight Inflation & Price Gouging: Rising prices are hurting every consumer right now. Meanwhile, the biggest corporations in America are reporting record profits. Congress must act to penalize the companies that are using inflation and economic uncertainty to profit at our expense.

Cut Middle Class Taxes. Raise Corporate Taxes: Every year, we hear about the biggest corporations in America paying no taxes on their billions of dollars in profit, and the rest of us are stuck with the bill. The 2017 Tax Bill transferred $100 billion in annual tax revenue from corporations to individual taxpayers. At least 11,000,000 Americans are still waiting on their 2020 tax refund. Congress has the power to fix these problems. They lack the will.

Childcare & Child Tax Credit: We need to re-authorize the child tax credit and this time, we need to make it permanent. We also need to expand childcare & pre-K opportunities for all families. Let’s educate the workforce of tomorrow while allowing millions of parents to re-join the workforce & contribute to the economy.

Healthcare: It’s long past time we guarantee comprehensive healthcare for all Americans by passing Medicare for All, including dental & vision coverage. We deserve a representative who will fight for everyone’s right to treatment, prescriptions, and preventative medicine without fear of bankruptcy.

Criminalize Wage Theft: Every year, corporations steal billions of dollars from workers by failing to pay what the law says they’ve earned. We’re not afraid to send executives to jail when they steal from their shareholders by insider trading. We shouldn’t be afraid to prosecute executives who steal from their employees in the same way.

Protect Unions: Unions were born out of a need for worker protections. Now, we need them more than ever. We need to harshly punish any companies that stifle unionizing efforts, because our economy can only flourish if workers are free to negotiate their terms and wages.

Protect Students & Seniors: Predatory Student Loans target our youngest citizens, while Reverse Mortgages and Liquidity Offers target our senior citizens. The victims are different, but these industries all thrive on predatory, unethical practices that deprive students & seniors from enjoying life and participating in the economy. Our economy cannot function when millions are saddled with unmanageable student debts, driven from their homes by shady reverse mortgages, or swindled out of their nest egg by official-sounding liquidity offers.

Fix Our Government

The United States has become a kleptocracy.

Here’s what we’ll do different:

Campaign Finance & Foreign Lobbying: It’s no secret that special interest groups and billion-dollar corporations are rigging our elections and buying our government. But it’s not just big business that spends millions lobbying our government. Governments like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Ukraine, and China all spend millions of dollars every year to wine & dine our politicians. They treat our representatives to lavish meals and free vacations, ensuring our representatives will represent their interests. We deserve a representative who will never accept money, gifts, or vacations from corporations or foreign lobbyists. We deserve a representative who will represent us.

Insider Trading: When executives use insider information to trade stocks, we put them in jail. The penalties for Congress should be the same. We need to outlaw Congress from using their positions to line their own pockets.

Warrantless Spying: The United States has become a surveillance state. The CIA and NSA collect data on American Citizens every day, and then it can be used by any executive agency without a warrant and without any suspicion of criminal activity. Meanwhile, Congress has abdicated its duty to oversee these agencies and prevent such egregious executive overreach. When the FISA Bill is up for re-authorization at the end of 2023, we need a Representative who will vote against warrantless spying.

Military Industrial Complex: The nearly $800 Billion we spend every year on our military is the single biggest drain on the US economy. By spending money on endless wars around the world, we cripple our ability to pay for the things we need: Healthcare, Infrastructure, Social Services, and Education. Our budget is a reflection of our priorities. We can not prosper at home while we drain our coffers abroad.

Mass Incarceration: Too many Americans are in prison for non-violent crimes. Our focus on retribution over rehabilitation costs our economy hundreds of billions of dollars every year, and the toll it takes on millions of families is immeasurable. We can solve this problem in 3 ways: End the Drug War, Ban Private Prisons, and Ban Prison Labor for Profit.

Civil Asset Forfeiture: Every year thousands of Americans have their property seized without ever being charged with a crime. This practice is a clear violation of the Constitution. It must end.[1]
