2015

Truong issued the following statement on her campaign page:

To all my neighbors in Alief,

My name is Lily Truong and I am running for the Alief ISD Board of Trustees Position 1. I am a graduate from Alief Hastings High School. All 3 of my children are graduates from Alief Kerr High School. We all love calling Alief our home and we have many dear school friends here. I have a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Natural Medicine. I am an Educational Consultant. I assist schools in the Greater Houston area to communicate with parents that have children enrolled in Early Childhood Development or Special Education Programs. I also work for the Harris County Department of Education’s Adult Education program in Southwest Houston.

During my free time, I love to assist various community based organizations. I am currently a council member of the Ascension Catholic Church in Alief. I am the president of the University of Houston Asian Alumni Association. I had served as the principal of the Vietnamese language school at Saint Justin Catholic Church in Alief. I believe that a school board must be responsive and receptive to parents, staff, students and the community at large, encouraging an open dialog. The board must take input from all groups and weigh all the facts before making an informed decision. A Board member is a trustee of the community that elects him or her. That Trustee must be accessible and willing to collaborate with all members of the community; that includes all District staff. Anyone that comes before the board has the right to speak and be heard. A school board member must build public understanding, support and participation.

I, Lily Truong, will be the Trustee that you want to have. I am a person who is strong on education, persistent, and determined to make sure that the interests of children, parents and taxpayers are looked out for because so often times it is not. I am a conservative person and I stand on principles.

I am strong on education. I will focus on making sure children are receiving a high quality education. We can do that by having a highly effective and qualified teacher in every class room. Teachers inspire students to achieve and help them to learn.

I am strong on education. I will focus on keeping the school tax low and making sure taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely. We can do that by adopting fiscal responsibility, transparency and making sure that parents and taxpayers know where their dollars are going.

I am strong on education. I do believe the future can be bright and we can start with our community. If enough of us become activists and enough of us get involved, we can guide our community toward a better future. Education is a very important issue that I hold dear to my heart. At this stage in my life, I would like to give back to Alief by contributing my time to serve the children of Alief. I hope that all of my Alief neighbors will vote for me to be their new Alief ISD Trustee member to serve all the children of Alief. On Election Day, please elect Lily Truong, Alief ISD Trustee position 1.

God bless America, home that I love. Thank you so much. [7]
