Former Governor of Rhode Island Lincoln Chafee (D) announced his bid for the presidency this afternoon. Speaking at George Mason University in Virginia, Chafee said, "We will be electing a new president in 2016. I enjoy challenges, and certainly we have many facing America. Today I am formally entering the race for the Democratic nomination for president."[1] Chafee is the fourth Democratic candidate to enter the race.
Prior to serving one term as the governor of Rhode Island from 2011 to 2015, Chafee was a U.S. senator for Rhode Island from 1999 to 2007 and the mayor of Warwick, Rhode Island, from 1992 to 1999.[2]
