Nebraska: Lincoln County District Court Judge John Murphy is set to retire on August 1, 2011, but will he be the last to serve this position?[1]
The state has been evaluating judges' workloads and juggling budget cuts, which could play a role in the removal of Judge Murphy's seat. On August 15 the Judicial Resources Commission will determine if Murphy's position as district judge will be seated back in Lincoln County.[1]
Supreme Court Public Information Officer Janet Bancroft said the determination to fill Murphy's judgeship will be based on weighted caseloads, adequate access to the courts by litigants, population, judicial duties, travel time and other factors.[1]
