New Hampshire: Yesterday, Linda Dalianis was officially appointed Chief Justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court. The Executive Council of Governor John Lynch approved the nomination unanimously. Dalianis was selected for the position, following the announcement that John Broderick was stepping down from the court, in November 2010.[1][2]

Of the announcement, Dalianis said, "I am very grateful to the governor and the council for confirming me. I look forward to working with the governor and the Legislature going forward.”[2]

Dalianis joined the Supreme Court in 2000 and was the first woman ever to sit on the Court. Ten years later, she again makes history for the state of New Hampshire, becoming the first woman to lead the judiciary. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Dalianis served on the New Hampshire Superior Court from 1980 to 2000.[2]

Dalianis will be sworn in next week. The associate justice position she is vacating will be filled by Robert J. Lynn, current chief justice of the New Hampshire Superior Court.[2]
