Dr. Linda Gunshefski is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist (eye physician and surgeon), who protected the vision of Walla Walla Valley residents for over 25 years. Thousands of patients from our region have benefited from her expert and compassionate care. She is also a successful small business owner who improved her practice with state of the art innovations. She was the first woman president of the Washington Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and a trustee for the Washington State Medical Association. She has been a leader in her community serving as a trustee for the Walla Walla YMCA and as a Paul Harris fellow in Rotary. She is married to Dr. Tim Caudill, a Walla Walla native. Tim's parents, Dr. Robert Caudill and Marion Caudill, were highly esteemed medical practicioners in the Walla Walla Valley. She is a Blue Star mom, her eldest son being a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. Her younger son is an aerospace engineer working on a NASA satellite orbiting the moon and preparing to land a woman on it. Dr. Gunshefski attended the Johns Hopkins University where she received an engineering degree. She received her MD from Rutgers Medical School. She was a general surgeon at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas before specializing in Ophthalmic Surgery at Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago. She will bring her professionalism and fierce determination to Olympia to the benefit of all the residents of the 16thLD.
  • "People over Politics" is my priority, as I want to address the issues that affect the day to day lives of all the residents of the 16th LD- affordable housing, health care access, childcare and education. The lack of affordable housing and homelessness are major problems for communities across our State. When in Olympia, I will work to find effective and fair methods to improve our housing supply.
  • "Principles over Partisanship" will be my guiding principle as a legislator. We need to focus on our common humanity. For example, it has become increasingly difficult for our residents to find the medical care they need. I am committed to reversing this trend. I will explore ways of improving access for medical care, mental health care and addiction treatment. I will not allow the attacks on our reproductive rights to become law in Washington. I will make sure all Washingtonians maintain access to contraception, pregnancy complication care, labor and delivery services, IVF, and safe abortion services.
  • Affordable Child Care and quality Education are issues that I am passionate about. A prosperous economy requires educated citizens. Quality Public Education, from pre-school to college is essential. I will make sure that local school districts get the funding they need from the State Legislature. I believe that affordable childcare is a huge challenge for working families and that the state of Washington can do better.
Housing, health care, child care and public education.
The most important qualities for an elected official are -integrity, leadership skills, intellect, empathy and vision.
Courage, leadership skills, persistence, determination, empathy and emotional intelligence and my education will serve me and my constituents well as an office holder.
