Linda Lau was a judge on the Washington Court of Appeals, Division I. She was appointed to this position by Governor Christine Gregoire (D) on November 27, 2007, and was elected and re-elected by voters in 2008 and 2014.[1][2][3]  Her last term would have expired on January 3, 2021, but she stepped down from the bench in the summer of 2016.[4][5] She was succeeded by Judge David S. Mann, appointed by Gov. Jay Inslee (D).

Education

Judge Lau graduated from the University of Washington in 1970 with a degree in Far East and Slavic languages. She then taught English in Taiwan and worked in human relations for about 10 years. In 1983, she received her law degree from the University of Puget Sound School of Law (now Seattle University).[6]

Career

Judge Lau began her legal career during law school as a law clerk and intern for Seattle Public Schools and for the firm Murphy, Jerge and Sirianni. She began working as a deputy prosecuting attorney in King County in 1984. In 1987, she joined the law firm of Maltman, Webber, Reed, North & Ahrens. She then became a King County District Court judge in 1993 and was appointed to the superior court in 1995. She served on the superior court until 2007, when she joined the court of appeals.[6][1]
