An effort to recall City Councilor Lindsay Bean did not go to a vote in Ishpeming, Michigan, after the petition language was rejected during a December 29, 2023, clarity and factual hearing.[1][2]
Organizers have indicated that they may appeal the decision or refile.[2]
Recall supporters
The recall petition alleged that Bean has violated the city charter, repeatedly allowed the city manager and city attorney to violate the city charter, and violated the Open Meetings Act.[1]
Recall opponents
Bean did not respond to a request for comment from The Mining Journal.[1]

No specific grounds are required for recall in Michigan. To get a recall on the ballot in Michigan, recall supporters must collect signatures equal in number to 25% of voters in the jurisdiction in the last gubernatorial election. They have 60 days between the collection of the first signature and the collection of the last signature on the petition. Recall petitions are eligible to collect signatures for 180 days.[3][4][5]
A clarity and factual hearing was scheduled for December 29, 2023. The petition language was rejected.[1][2]
