Campaign themes
2016
Baldwin's website highlighted the following campaign themes:
“ | Education Reform
More than 50% of the state budget is spent on education which makes my school board experience invaluable. I support free market education reform efforts and expansion of school choice. State Education Savings Accounts will allow the money to follow the child, increasing competition among public and private schools which will result in improved education outcomes for students. Repeal Common Core I want to see Common Core replaced with academically rigorous standards, putting NC on the map for a world class education system. Transparency & Accountability I will call for more transparency and accountability from government agencies. Each agency should build their budget from the ground up, known as zero-based budgeting. Only core government services should be funded with valuable taxpayer dollars. All decisions must be viewed through the lens of the state constitution, North Carolina's governing document. Family Values I support traditional Biblical values, fiscal responsibility, marriage between one man and one woman, and I am pro-life. Immigration I support state laws that reform immigration, like HB 318, by protecting public safety, reducing identity fraud and discouraging illegal immigration to the state by making it harder to find jobs. North Carolina's Voter ID law and prohibition of sanctuary cities is a move in the right direction but more needs to be done to secure our borders, enforce existing immigration laws and ensure a path to citizenship for those who truly ascribe to our U.S. Constitution and American way of life.[10][11] |
