Lisa Coons
Lisa Coons was the Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction. She assumed office on April 17, 2023. She left office on March 14, 2025.
Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) appointed Coons to replace former Superintendent Jillian Balow.[1] She resigned as Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction on March 14, 2025.[2]
Biography
Lisa Coons earned a doctorate in education from Lipscomb University. Coons’ career experience includes working as chief academic officer for the Tennessee Department of Education, executive officer of division priority schools for Metro Nashville Public Schools, and executive director of instructional leadership at the Tennessee Department of Education.[3]
