Meeting the needs of our growing city
- Housing is our #1 issue as a city. I spent 2025 working on the city’s first Affordable Housing Action Plan along with staff and members of the Workforce Housing Committee and Community Development Authority. As mayor, I’ll assist the Council, city staff and committees, and our partners in implementing the plan.
- Transportation goes hand-in-hand with housing. I’ll advocate for improving and adhering to our “Complete Streets Policy” so that roadways are safe and accessible to all users, including pedestrians, people using bikes and other mobility devices, transit riders, and drivers.
- City residents value parks, trails, and conservancy lands because they make Middleton a great place to live, raise a family, and retire. Each year, we add more acres of parks and conservancy lands and more miles of trails. I support the staff’s efforts to write long-term plans for maintaining what we currently have. As mayor, I’ll work with the city administration and finance department to submit a balanced, affordable budget that demonstrates Middleton’s commitment to our green spaces and our incredible network of trails.
- Of all the city’s committees and commissions, the Plan Commission has the greatest influence on Middleton’s growth and development. Unlike the incumbent, I will accept the mayor’s traditional role as chair of the Plan Commission instead of tapping someone else to do the work for me.
Strengthening our sense of community
- I’ll reinvigorate the process for recruiting and appointing members to the city’s committees, commissions, and boards so that people who serve are highly engaged, feel that their time is well spent, and know their service is having an impact.
- I’ll meet with each of Middleton’s many service organizations to discuss their goals and needs, and to brainstorm about ways to use the mayor’s office to help grow the number of volunteers that devote their time to making our city a great place to live.
- I’ll coordinate with MCPASD, Madison College, UW Madison, Edgewood University, and City staff on ways to engage students in city government and local problem solving so that young people can get early exposure to public service and to civic responsibilities like voting.
- I’ll meet with major employers and other businesses to identify ways to work together on issues of mutual concern, including affordable housing and transportation.
Keeping people informed about their government
- I’ll continue my monthly e-newsletter to inform people about what’s going on in city government and what I’m doing.
- I’ll be an accessible and responsive mayor. In addition to answering emails and returning phone calls in a timely manner, I’ll hold office hours on a weekly basis so that constituents will be able to drop in and talk to me about city matters.
- I’ll organize a monthly briefing at City Hall to be live-streamed so that residents can hear from their city government officials about projects and activities that may affect them.
- I’ll make myself available to meet with neighborhood associations, homeowners associations, senior living communities, service organizations, and any other group that wants to talk about city government happenings.
